Yesterday, I saw a movie- Lincoln. I’m not a film critic neither do I know about casts and props and stuff like that, but I know this- Steven Spielberg is good!
The movie revolved around Abraham Lincoln’s emancipation of slavery in 1865. One of the congressmen during the debate whether to pass the 13th amendment or not made this statement:
“Congress must never declare equal those whom God declared unequal”
He was referring to the black race. If someone could make that statement, I wonder what those people (the blacks) had to go through. But even more, I wonder what ‘possessed’ another white man, a president, to fight vigorously to secure the freedom of these people. He left a legacy, a lasting legacy, that we still see today (Martin Luther King, Jr. , Obama).
Over the years, people have fought for the freedom of generations unborn. We are freely Christians today because some people fought and died for the freedom of God’s Word. And people are still fighting. Whether it’s Education or alleviation of poverty, there’s still a lot to fight for. And I will fight. And I will succeed. If not for me, but for my children yet unborn.
Food for thought:
“Those who deny freedom to others, deserve it not for themselves; and, under a just God, can not long retain it.”- Abraham Lincoln
