What does God say about that? I’ve created a sub-category on this subject so that we can have various topics under it. Today will be on “Discouragement”. What does God say about Discouragement? And what God says can be found in His Word. If faith comes from the Word (Romans 10:17) then we really should pay attention to His Word.
As much as possible, we should be able to get 2 to 3 Bible Scriptures for any topic because the Bible says in the mouth of two or three witnesses shall a thing be established, so put this in mind if you want to send in posts.
We should first establish that discouragement can be deadly. In Numbers 32:7-13, Moses narrates how discouragement led to the death of many.
Secondly, God tells Joshua not to be discouraged because He will be with him in Joshua 1:9:
“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.“
In 1Samuel 30, the Bible narrates the time David and his men came back to their village to find it ravaged and their wives and children taken captive. He was discouraged but what did he do? 1Sam 30:6-8:
6 And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.
7 And David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech’s son, I pray thee, bring me hither the ephod. And Abiathar brought thither the ephod to David.
8 And David enquired at the Lord, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all.
He encouraged himself in the Lord and enquired of God.
Finally, how are we supposed to be strong? In ourselves? Surely not. Paul writes to the saints at Ephesus and says in Ephesians 6:10:
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.“
Food for thought:
