John steadied himself from the sudden wave that seemed to have entered the place and hit him. He did the necessary formalities and made his way to the room. Hand in head, he wondered how it all came down to this. What were the odds that his “mistress” and his wife were sharing a cup of tea downstairs watching something that was none of their business happening thousands of miles away?
“Mistress”…The word left a bad taste in his mouth. When did he become a cheat? Why did she become a nag because of this child bearing issue? Even more, why wasn’t he there for her? He had started working late just to avoid her. Why did he let anger consume him? Why did he have to resolve to alcohol that night? In fact, why did he even drink so much all his life? And oh…how will he ever face God again? He had let down his guard and…
John drifted off into sleep
*Oga*Chairman sir*Excuse me sir*
He heard that voice in the distance. He opened his eyes to someone staring down at him. He remembered sleeping off on a soft pillow in his bed, why was this platform hard? Where was he again? 2nd time in a row! What is going-
“Sir, we want to lock up“, the voice disrupted his thoughts.
“Lock up?” He wondered, staring at the heavily built man before him
“Yes sir. Oga, e be like say you don dey! Na so you sleep comot for here. But 12 don knack sha and we gast lock up“
John looked around. He was still in his suit from the work day and he was still at the bar meaning…
Meaning it was all a dream!
In his excitement, he tipped the bar man so much that he was sure he had just beat any customer’s previous record. He ran out towards his car where Akpan had settled into his night sleep.
“Akpan. Akpan! Wake up. Take me home.“
He removed his phone from his pocket and dialed that number.
“Hey baby, I’m coming home. I’m sorry about everything and I love you and I want us to work. We’d talk about it all when I get home.“
Ada stared at the phone. She looked at the call log again just to confirm that it was John who had actually called. She dialed her mother’s number just to be sure…if anyone was going to go to Heaven when rapture happened, her mother would be first.
“Ada…it’s late. I just finished praying else I’d have been asleep by now. What’s the matter? I hope all is well.“
“Yes mama. All is very well. I just called to make sure you are still here, sorry, to make sure you are alright. I’d call you in the morning.“
And all was well indeed. It’s like God had organised an ‘intervention’ for John through that dream and it was the beginning of a beautiful life ahead for both of them
Food for thought:
Hehe, it just had to be a dream please. I don’t like negative endings. Our God is a God of second chances.
1Peter 3:7 “Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.”
