Love gives

I know when we hear “give”, the first thing that comes to mind (especially if you are Ijebu like me) is “give materially“. When it’s time to give in Church, we get shifty. Although love gives materially, that’s not only what it gives.

God’s love for us made Him give His Son: John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Jesus’ love for us made Him give His life: John 15:13 “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

The disciples in Corinth were called to give towards the ministering of the saints: 2 Corinthians 8:8 “I speak not by commandment, but by occasion of the forwardness of others, and to prove the sincerity of your love.

Food for thought:

2 Corinthians 9:7 “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.”

Life nugget:

1 John 3:18 “My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.”

Your Devotion, whose benefit?

I lay on my bed yesterday night, trying to ‘motivate’ myself to pray. I wasn’t ready for the guilt I’d feel in the morning if I didn’t pray. Well, I thought to myself, I’d just fulfill all righteousness and pray for a few minutes, killing two birds – tiredness and guilt- with one stone – short prayer.

Many times we think like I did yesterday: like our fellowship with God is a 50/50 symbiotic relationship. We think that when we study our Bible or pray or spend time with God, it’s for His benefit as much as it is for ours. So we see it as a “sin” committed against God and because we don’t want the guilt of sin, we cut corners.

However, He is the same yesterday, today and forever. Our time with Him doesn’t change Him; it changes us. We are the ones who need something. This causes a change of perspective (and possibly a burst of energy when you know you are doing it for yourself). So if you are finding your devotion hard to do, check your thinking.

Food for thought:

I’m not saying there are not times when we are not genuinely tired but getting your thinking right is one less thing to worry about.

Life nugget:

2 Corinthians 3:18 “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.”

The Hand of the Lord

I was studying the Bible and came across Acts 13:11 where Paul cursed Elymas the sorcerer:

“And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.”

Another version says: “the hand of the Lord is AGAINST thee”. So I wondered knowing that the hand of the Lord was against this guy for evil. But Continue reading

The Name of Jesus vs. Faith in the Name of Jesus

Philippians 2:9-11 reads thus:

“Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

There’s ‘natural’ potency in the Name of Jesus. This potential power in that Name is present, whether or not you believe it. In Acts 4:12, Peter said: “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” The Name of Jesus is powerful any day, any time.

However, how do we access that power? Is the power in the Name of Jesus available to everyone? Let’s see. Continue reading

Obedience through faith

The 8th commandment says “Thou shall not steal”. Now imagine if you were one of the two disciplines that Jesus sent to the village to bring the tied colt.

Luke 19:30-31 KJV

“Saying, Go ye into the village over against you; in the which at your entering ye shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him hither. And if any man ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him.”

Bring it to the present day. Jesus says you should go to the BMW auto store and bring the new “tear rubber” 7 series car and IF anyone should ask you, tell them Jesus sent you. Will you go?

But the disciples obeyed because they took Jesus completely at His Word. Some things may sound absurd but if only we can take the Word of God as it is…

Food for thought:

Have you ever wondered how God could tell the Israelites to “borrow” when they were leaving Egypt? Think about it…

Life nugget:

John 2:5 “His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.”

Her version of the events

Perhaps, I was too mechanical in my delivery of what happened. Lol. The Lady decides she needs to say her version…

Tolu: Really? That’s supposed to be our last alone-time on this holiday

Bros starts to stutter – Clue 1

Deolu: It’s for our good… It will be short… Take kilz

Girl thinks, “this meeting must yield dosh… Otherwise *rme”

Mr Oga is pacing back and forth – Clue 2

Tolu: Has your meeting been cancelled? I’m hoping to hear *sigh, yes

Deolu: No, I’m just waiting for *voice fades off*

What a drag… Tolu be supportive… Lol

Tolu: Or should I come with you. I’m  techie too and I can pitch as well

Deolu: No dear, it’s fine

Dee goes for meeting (ring pickup)

I doze off and 90mins later my sleep is disturbed by his call. I had no idea my life was about to take a huge leap!

Deolu: “O” said you should log on to Skype; she has an emergency

Tolu: Sorry? *brain still booting as it was in hibernate mode*

I finally dragged myself to my computer for “the emergency” & guess what “O” couldn’t wait to tell me? A proposal on Youtube. Darling, I have seen enough but if this one is worth you waking me for then Dee might learn a thing or 2.

First 10 seconds of video

This is weird, must be some coincidence. It resonates with the DeoluTolu story

35 seconds

Pause video. Screaming Deolu, where are you? I’m going hysterical. The video was uploaded today. He says keep watching in the most calm voice.

50 seconds

My mascara… Scratch that… Eyeliner is running already. I finish the video & there he was on his KNEES

“Will you marry me?” Ohh with the rock in his hand

Are you waiting for more?… Gbeborun

*look out for deolutolu 2014*

How it happened…

I’m sorry I’ve been away for a while. Was on holiday and I didn’t get access to the Internet much. Okay, so some of you already know what happened…some of you don’t.

This post will resolve that for those of you who don’t know and for those of you who know, this is HOW it happened…

***

I proposed.

I made a video and uploaded it on YouTube and with the help of her friend (let’s call her ‘O’), we got her to watch the video thinking it was some random YouTube video.

You can watch the video I made below. For better viewing, you may increase the Quality. Also, because of some copyright music I used to make the video, you can’t watch on your mobile devices (except you switch to “Desktop”). So I uploaded another one without the songs (kinda bleh though) for those that will want to use their mobile devices.

The mobile-friendly version:

At the point of the video where ‘the question’ came up, I was on my knee with the ring in my hand. She said ‘Yes’ (*cleans sweat)

I’m sorry I didn’t make a video of her reaction. It was a surprise and she’d have been spooked.
