I know when we hear “give”, the first thing that comes to mind (especially if you are Ijebu like me) is “give materially“. When it’s time to give in Church, we get shifty. Although love gives materially, that’s not only what it gives.
God’s love for us made Him give His Son: John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Jesus’ love for us made Him give His life: John 15:13 “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
The disciples in Corinth were called to give towards the ministering of the saints: 2 Corinthians 8:8 “I speak not by commandment, but by occasion of the forwardness of others, and to prove the sincerity of your love.”
Food for thought:
2 Corinthians 9:7 “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.”
1 John 3:18 “My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.”
