Something about not giving up

Happy new year guys.

I’d get straight to it. Here’s a story about Isaac in Genesis 26: 19-22:

And Isaac’s servants digged in the valley, and found there a well of springing water. And the herdmen of Gerar did strive with Isaac’s herdmen, saying, The water is ours: and he called the name of the well Esek; because they strove with him. And they digged another well, and strove for that also: and he called the name of it Sitnah. And he removed from thence, and digged another well; and for that they strove not: and he called the name of it Rehoboth; and he said, For now the Lord hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.

Here we see Isaac’s servants digging wells. They dug three and the Philistine herdsmen contended with them for two of them. The first thing that struck me in these verses is the persevering attitude of Isaac. Of course he must have felt disappointed but he kept at it. Water was a thing they needed to prosper – livestock depended on it and so on. So Isaac continued until he found fulfillment for his necessity.

Secondly, I saw something else. Look at this phrase in verse 22: “And he removed from thence”…So even in perseverance, wisdom is required. It is commonly said that “Madness is doing the same thing and expecting different results”. Yes, don’t give up but you may need to change your approach.

Food for thought:

Why do we give up on things that we need (especially from a Spiritual standpoint) and just ‘accept our fate’ rather than fight till we get it?

Life nugget:

Gen 26: 22 “…and he called the name of it Rehoboth; and he said, For now the Lord hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.”
