Techy articles for the month of January

Hey my techy readers,

I will now be writing only one article per month summarizing all the techy articles I write for Intense School so that should drive down the number of techy posts on this blog tremendously. Did I hear you guys shout hallelujah? *hehe*

For the month of January, we have the following topics:

  • Route maps: Learn the fundamentals of route maps here.
  • Bridging VPNs: This series has four parts: part 1, part 2, part 3 and part 4. It looks at the following scenario: Site A and Site B have a site-to-site VPN connection between themselves. Site C is a new site that needs to also have VPN access to Site B but for some reason, this new VPN access has to go through Site A which will then route it to site B.
  • Site-to-Site VPN with overlapping subnets (on Cisco ASA): This one has two parts but only the first part has been posted for now. It discusses what to do when you need to set up a VPN tunnel between two subnets using the same IP address space.

I actually didn’t write a lot in the past month because I was busy with other stuff. Let’s see how February plays out. Happy new month in advance!

Psst…the Cisco Mentoring Program has launched!

I often get messages from people just starting out their Networking career and others who are well on their way: they would like to talk to someone who has gone ahead on the path they are currently treading. Other times, they have questions (technical and otherwise) they would like answered. Generally speaking, what they want in one word is a “Mentor”.

Rather than randomly looking for a Cisco mentor, I decided to make it official. I recently launched Continue reading

Conclusion of CCP Series

Cisco Easy VPN client

CCP Series: Easy VPN

The CCP series I ran on the Intense School site was a long one spanning over 20 articles and 11 labs. We have finally come to the end of that series with the last lab on Cisco Easy VPN. Although many “techy” people may not like using GUI on Cisco, the Cisco Configuration Professional is actually a good way to learn about different features and it may also come in handy when setting up a quick lab.

The labs in the CCP series are related to the Cisco Security exams (CCNA, CCNP Security, CCIE Security) and if you want to learn more about these exams, classes are available at Intense School!

Techy Post: Thin-client SSL VPN

This week on the Intense School site, we have a new article in the Cisco Configuration Professional Series. This article discusses how to configure thin-client SSL VPN using CCP. Thin-client SSL VPN, also called port forwarding, provides secure access to fixed TCP port services such as SSH, Telnet, and SMTP.

Techy post: More Technical articles at Intense School!

On the Intense School site, we have four new articles, three of which are on the Cisco ASA and the latest one is on the Cisco Configuration Professional Tool (CCP).

The first article continues with the Cisco ASDM series by looking at access control rules while the second article focuses on IPsec remote access VPN. In this 3rd article, I write on an interesting discovery (it has always been there but I only just discovered it) about to-the-box filtering on the Cisco ASA. The final article is the 9th lab in the CCP series dealing with clientless SSL VPN.

Techy posts: Cisco ASDM articles

Hey guys, we have more articles on the Intense School site concerning the Cisco ASA. This series deals with using the Adaptive Security Device Manager (ASDM) to configure the Cisco ASA. The following articles have been posted:
